walkUP for Diabetes Course

We are very excited to announce the new walkUP for Diabetes Course. This course has been tailored to those dealing with diabetes, pre-diabetes or at risk of Type 2 diabetes, community leaders who are looking to provide a fully integrated option to their residents, as well as those health care professionals who would like to recommend it to their clients.

Urban Poling is one of the most effective forms of fitness for managing diabetes and weight loss. The course also includes; sample exercises and stretches clients can do with their poles, ideas for creating and tracking an urban poling routine, suggestions for choosing proper exercise footwear and clothing, and lots more. This new program has already been adopted by numerous communities across Canada wanting to offer a fun and effective year-round physical exercise for children to older adults.

Going downhill

For moderately steep slopes, simply decrease the pressure on the base of the handles or drag your poles behind you. For steep slopes, keep your poles upright and in front and out to the side slightly, so if you do fall you won’t land on your poles. Bend your knees and elbows, and slow down any momentum. For long descents, it may be helpful to lengthen the poles.
